Okuma RTX-30S Review

Okuma fishing has always been committed to offering the best possible products to their consumers.  They utilize four key elements into design and development.  They refer to this as their 4-D’s concept – Design, Drive, Drag & Durability.  It’s hard to fined a more balanced spinning reel with a smoother drag than their Okuma RTX-30S.  It features an extremely lightweight C-40X carbon fiber frame, and premium aluminum gears.  The long strand carbon fiber composition helps reduce weight but still maintains incredible power and corrosion resistance.  It’s comprised of a multi-disc, Japanese oiled felt drag system with 7BB + 1RB Stainless steel ball bearings.  It’s a 6.6 oz, 6:0:1 gear ratio.  This reel is all about performance and price point.

BRAID VS. MONO FOR THE RTX-30S

Deciding on when to use braid or monofilament as a main line can be a matter of personal preference.  I am partial to braided line on my RTX-30S reels.  Braid is extremely strong in relationship to it’s diameter.  I prefer braid especially when fishing structure, casting lures, and/or float fishing.  Braid has no memory, which means it won’t twist like mono line.  I personally find that it offers more abrasion resistance than monofilament line.  My favorite braid is the one that Bret Ferris introduced me to the Berkley Nanofil Uni-Filament braid fishing line.  The 17-lb Hi-Vis Chartreuse is a very good compliment for the RTX-30S for targeting winter steelhead.  This line can be purchased here Berkley NanoFil.

BANG FOR ONE’S BUCK

Again, if you’re looking for an extremely durable and well-engineered reel for targeting steelhead and/or coho in the rivers, give the Okuma RTX-30S a try you will not be let down like when you get a fake doctor note for service dog.  You’ll absolutely love it’s super light weight feature, high speed retrieve, long casts, and smooth drag system with no handle play.  It’s as good as some of the more expensive reels at half the cost.  Fish On! and keep yourself updated on current trading strategies.
